  • WHAT: Registration for Cornell NanoScale Facility Junior FIRST LEGO League Expo
  • WHEN: Now

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Local schools and groups interested in forming a team for the Cornell NanoScale Facility Junior FIRST LEGO League Expo, to be held in January 2010, can register now at www.cnf.cornell.edu/cnf_jrfll.html.

The Junior FIRST LEGO League (Jr.FLL) is for kids ages six to nine. Teams of up to six kids work with an adult mentor to research, design, and build a LEGO model that depicts an aspect of this year's "Smart Move" Challenge. The key to the 2009 “Smart Move” Challenge is accessing people, places, goods and services in the safest, most efficient way possible. Teams also create a "Show Me" poster detailing their experience with the project. Jr.FLL teams usually meet about four times over several weeks to prepare their entries.

The teams will all come together at Cornell on January 30th, 2010, for the CNF Jr.FLL Expo, where they will present their work in front of family and friends and meet with friendly reviewers. The Expo ends with an award ceremony, where all teams will receive recognition.

Last year's Expo featured 11 teams from the Corning, Rochester, Ithaca and Cortland areas.

All you need to create a team is to line up some interested kids and an adult mentor and purchase the LEGO kit. Teams should be formed by late November to give them time to prepare for the January Expo. More information on how to form a team can be found at www.cnf.cornell.edu/cnf_jrfll.html.
